Astigmatism Contact Lenses
Astigmatism is the technical term eye doctors use to describe an eye problem that results in "lack of point
focus". Basically this results from a cornea tat is not evenly shaped like a basket ball, but rather resembles an
egg in shape.
Formerly people with astigmatism were not able to wear contacts, but today the new generation contact lenses are
much more advanced and astigmatism contact lenses are available.

Researchers have developed special soft lenses which are designed to correct for astigmatism. These lenses
are called toric lenses. They have an astigmatic correction built into the lens.
For toric lenses to work properly, they need to move up and down the eye without twisting when
blinking. When rotation of the lens takes place when blinking, the impression of an unstable vision is
given.
A different approach to correct for astigmatism with contacts is to use a solid or gas permeable
lens that neutralizes the toric surface of the cornea.
